FARMINGTON — Police on Saturday tentatively identified the victim in a fatal motor vehicle accident Friday morning on Wilton Road in Farmington as a 21-year-old Wilton woman.
Sgt. Edward Hastings, of the Farmington Police Department, said police believe Taylor Gaboury died after a car struck her about 1:40 a.m. Friday while she was walking along Wilton Road, close to the intersection of Livermore Falls Road near Franklin Memorial Hospital. Wilton Road is also Route 4 and U.S. Route 2.
Tommy Clark, 25, of Industry, was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated operating under the influence of alcohol in connection with the accident. Clark initially fled but was caught a short time later, Hastings said.
Gaboury was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. She had no identification or cellphone on her at the time of the accident, police said.
“Officers met with the family, and due to clothing and tattoos, it is believed that Gaboury was the victim in this tragic motor vehicle crash,” Farmington police Chief Jack Peck Jr. said in a news release Saturday. An autopsy is planned for Sunday at the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta and the identity is expected to be confirmed then, he said.
Peck said officers obtained statements from two women who were at the scene when police arrived and determined that the driver and the vehicle were at a local hotel in Farmington. Police then found Clark and impounded the vehicle. Clark, who submitted to a blood test to determine his blood alcohol level, was charged with aggravated operating under the influence of alcohol, a class B felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Peck noted there is a GoFundMe website to raise money for funeral expenses.
Hastings said Facebook discussions monitored by police indicated that Gaboury had been walking from Wilton to Farmington when she was killed.
