GARDINER — Police arrested two people Wednesday at a Brunswick Avenue residence in connection with a lengthy, still ongoing investigation of heroin trafficking, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Tyrone Sanders, 27, of Bronx, New York, was charged with four counts of class B trafficking in Schedule W drugs, heroin; one count of class A aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs; three counts of violating conditions of release and one count of falsifying physical evidence, MDEA said in a news release. The aggravated trafficking charge is the result of a drug sale Sanders allegedly made in a designated school zone.
Nicole Stump, 29, of Gardiner, was charged with violations of conditions of release after it was determined she had opiates in her system in violation of a bail condition not to use or possess drugs, according to MDEA.
The investigation, conducted jointly by MDEA and Gardiner police, has been underway for several months. The agencies, together with the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office, executed search warrants Wednesday at 148 Brunswick Ave. and 106 Highland Ave., locations where police suspected Sanders was selling drugs. They seized evidence including about $1,500 in suspected drug proceeds, other evidence of drug trafficking and a small amount of cocaine, according to MDEA. Sanders was arrested as he was trying to destroy physical evidence of the crimes, the release said.
Sanders and Stump were taken to the Kennebec County jail in Augusta, where Sanders’ bail was set at $50,000 cash. Stump will have to appear before a judge before bail is set.
MDEA asked that anyone who has additional information about the case call its tip line at 800-452-6457.
