As a child, Sen. Roger Katz, R-Augusta, probably dealt with bullies on the playground. I’ll bet he thought that was all over when he left elementary school, but clearly it is not.
As he faces another bully, in the person of Gov. Paul LePage, Katz should remember that Maine has a strong anti-bullying campaign. He isn’t alone in this fight. Most of us have learned that we cannot ignore bullying in our schools. We must insist that it not be tolerated in our State House, either.
Katz must know that most people have the governor’s number. We know that his attacks on Katz are the acts of a bully. I hope Katz never even thinks about retreating.
The vast majority of his constituents are proud of his reasoned and well-mannered approach to his work as a legislator. While his legacy will be a better community and state, LePage will not be remembered so positively.
LePage should set a better example. Like it or not, he is our governor, and we deserve better from him.
