Hawk lesson, 10 a.m. Tuesday, in York

Late September is the time to look for migrating hawks. A hawk identification lesson will be offered by York County Audubon in collaboration with the Mount Agamenticus Conservation Region. The lesson will be in the Learning Lodge at the summit of Mt. Agamenticus, off Mountain Road in York. From 10 a.m. to noon, participants will learn how to identify hawks, then go outside to identify passing hawks. The workshop leader is Katrina Felton, a biologist who has worked at raptor migration projects in Maine and New Hampshire. Registration is required with a $10 fee. Register at yorkcountyaudubon.org.

Six Common Trees, 2 p.m. Sept. 30, in Saco

Ferry Beach State Park offers nature programs every Wednesday in September. Next week, the program will look at six common trees and the ecosystem of each. The program is free with park admission. Casting Class, 1:30 p.m. Oct. 3, in Cape Elizabeth

State park manager Doc Dochtermann will lead two more surf casting classes at coastal state beaches. Participants need only pay the park entry fee. The next class will be at Crescent Beach State Park. The last class will be at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 4 at Reid State Park in Georgetown. Dochtermann will show the equipment needed, then take the class fishing. Equipment and bait will be available, although fishermen should bring their own if they have it.
