FARMINGTON — The 175th annual Farmington Fair opens Sunday for a seven-day run of agricultural exhibits, harness racing, live music, a demolition derby, lots of fair food and rides and games of skill on the fairgrounds midway.
The fair, sponsored by the Franklin County Agricultural Society, kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Sunday with the 4-H working steer pull, followed at 10 a.m. by barrel racing and a steer and oxen show. The midway by Smokey’s Greater Shows opens at 1 p.m. with harness racing and pari-mutuel wagering at 2 p.m.
The Miss Farmington Fair Pageant is set for 6:30 p.m. Sunday with fireworks scheduled for dusk.
Admission to the fair costs $6. Tickets for children ages 8-11 cost $2, with children 7 and under getting in free. People 62 and older pay $2 at the gate on Tuesday and Thursday. Parking costs $3.
There will be exhibits by Western Maine Beekeepers daily. Post times for harness racing is 2 p.m. daily. Friday will feature exhibitions of Aberdeen, Angus, Charolais, Hereford, Devon, Chianina, Shorthorn, Simmental and Belted Galloway cattle.
The fair runs through Saturday, Sept. 26, with the demolition derby scheduled for 7 p.m. that day.
