CLINTON — A local man wanted on charges from three agencies was arrested Wednesday afternoon with a loaded firearm in his car, police said.

Louis Rubino, 34, is charged with operating after suspension while a habitual offender, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed weapon and having a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle, Clinton police Chief Craig Johnson said.

Police in Knox County initially contacted the Clinton Police Department about Rubino, saying he was wanted for failure to report to jail. Johnson said Rubino is a felon convicted on several counts, though he wasn’t sure what his past convictions were for.

He’s also wanted on charges in Augusta, Johnson said.

Police from Clinton, Winslow and the Maine State Police went to Rubino’s home on McNally Road around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday to execute a search warrant. They had reason to believe Rubino had a firearm, although as a convicted felon, he is not allowed to have one, Johnson said.

He was stopped in a motor vehicle on his way home and police found a loaded firearm in the car, Johnson said.

“I’m not sure if he didn’t want to go back to jail or if he just figured he needed it to protect himself,” he said.

Rubino was arrested without incident and was taken to the Kennebec County jail in Augusta.
