AUGUSTA — Two Belgrade women were behind bars Sunday afternoon not long after police say they burglarized a pastor’s home and stole his money while he was at church.

Danielle L. Hayden, 41, and Tammy Lee Peaslee, 45, were arrested Sunday by Maine State Trooper Breanne Petrini. However, Peaslee was later released from jail without being charged.

According to an affidavit by Petrini filed at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta, a neighbor saw the two women — one of whom he recognized — go into the man’s Belgrade home on Sunday morning. The neighbor said he had thought the homeowner was there.

Petrini’s affidavit said the 69-year-old homeowner called police Sunday to say his home had been burglarized while he was at church between 9 and 11:30 a.m.

The homeowner told police Hayden had asked him for money earlier in the week, and when he went to get $20 to give to her, she saw where he hid his cash.

Petrini’s affidavit said Hayden admitted going into the man’s home on Sunday morning, but said she did so to check on him since he sometimes falls.

Both women were taken to Kennebec County jail where they were initially held on $10,000 bail each on the theft and burglary charges.

At Hayden’s initial appearance at the Capital Judicial Center Monday afternoon, a judge reduced her bail to $2,000 cash or $200 cash with a Maine Pretrial Services contract.
