Winthrop High School recently announced scholarships awarded to students at Class Night, June 5.

SCHOLARSHIP:

The Winthrop Educator Association Scholarship was awarded to Joe Fay.

Ramsdell Memorial Fund Scholarships are awarded to graduating students based on being all-around students and having participated in activities within their church. The award went to Lilly Beauregard, Kevin Chamberland and Ashleigh Dunham.

The Stephen Lincoln Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Zack Phinney.

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church Scholarship was awarded to Jacob Rioux.

Winthrop Hillandalers Snowmobile Club, Joe Firlotte Scholarship was awarded to Ben Caprara.

The Alfred W. Maxwell, Jr., American Legion Post 40 Scholarship was awarded to Teresa Easterbrooks.

The Alfred W. Maxwell, Jr., American Legion Post 40 Howard Harriman Scholarship was awarded to Curtis Hawes.

Two Alfred W. Maxwell Jr. American Legion Auxiliary Unit 40 Scholarships were awarded Gabrielle Stewart and Mason Sohns.

The Wendy Lea Vigneault Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Mitch DeBlois.

The Kelsey Stoneton Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Nick Schlosser.

Three Winthrop Lions Club Scholarships were awarded to Will Grimes, Anthony Travis and Ben Caprara.

The Knights of Columbus Council 13181, Scholarship was awarded to Ben Caprara.

The Glenn S. Hayford Memorial Scholarship were awarded to a student who is very fond of music, sports and everything to do with the outdoors. This year’s award went to Teresa Easterbrooks.

Two Winthrop Rotary Club Scholarships were awarded to Jacob Rioux and Mitch DeBlois.

Scott Blackstone Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Abbi Rice.

Three RLC Engineering Scholarship were awarded to Nick Schlosser, Curtis Hawes and Isaac Johnson.

The Helen A. Griffin Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Curtis Hawes.

The Senator George J. Mitchell Scholarship Research Institute awards 129 Scholarships each year — one to a graduating senior from every public high school in Maine. The Scholarship award amount is $7000. Each year there are over 1000 applications from across the state and the quality of the application pool is always very high. This year’s Mitchell Scholar from Winthrop High School is Teresa Easterbrooks.

Charlie’s Chevrolet Automotive Scholarship was awarded to Isaac Johnson.

Two Charlie’s Chevrolet Business Scholarships were awarded to Hope Dunn and Patrick Ouellette.

The Monmouth Community Players Scholarship were awarded to Ashleigh Dunham.

Augusta Kiwanis Club Scholarship goes to a deserving student who has displayed community and school service with consideration given to a student’s academic achievement, character, and leadership capabilities. This year the Scholarship was awarded to Joseph Fay.

The Sandie Belden Memorial Scholarship. Walter Belden started this scholarship is in memory of his wife who was a Winthrop graduate. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior pursuing a degree in the health care field. This year’s scholarship was awarded to Dakota Carter.

The Thomas Calcagni Memorial Scholarship. Thomas came to America in 1905 with no money and no education but he did have to the desire to learn. The scholarship is given annually to a deserving student. This year it was awarded to Will Grimes.

Eva King Bailey Foundation Fund Scholarships are given to 4 graduating seniors who wish to attend an institution of higher learning. These go to Lilly Beauregard, Kevin Chamberland, Matt Sekerak and Nicole MacMillan.

The Germaine Auclair Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a deserving senior with a love for education and academic promise. This year the award went to Zack Phinney.

The Avis Adams Cadwell Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate residing in Winthrop who has been accepted at an accredited institution. The student must be pursuing a career in nursing or in a health care related field. It is based on academic achievement and commitment to pursue the chosen health care field. This year two Scholarships were awarded to Christina Smith and Logan Lattin.

The Bank of Maine Scholarship is awarded to a student who shows leadership, character and a potential for success This year’s Scholarship went to Ben Allen

Two Winthrop Area Federal Credit Union Scholarships go to deserving graduates who are also members of the credit union. This year the students were Ben Caprara and Nick Schlosser.

Two Winthrop Athletic Boosters’ Club Scholarships are given to one graduating senior boy and one graduating senior girl with athletic accomplishments and goals, good sportsmanship and promising athletic capability. This year the awards went to Lilly Beauregard and Taylor Morang.

Stanley Kanzey Memorial Scholarships are awarded to the students who choose to pursue a college or university education Ben Allen, Lilly Beauregard, Kevin Chamberland, Kellen Glaser, Dakota Carter, Adam Hachey, Taylor Morang, Teresa Easterbrooks, Ryan Scully and Mason Sohns.

The Bud Clough Vocational Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student who has participated in a vocational program of studies while attending Winthrop High School. The 2015 recipient was Will Grimes.

The Bud Clough Athletic Memorial Scholarship is awarded in memory of Mr. Clough, a Winthrop resident and avid Winthrop High School sports fan. He contributed a great deal to the sports community including coaching, working on fields and attending most sporting events. This year the scholarship went to Matt Sekerak.

The MELMAC Education Foundation Maine Principals’ Scholarship is awarded to a senior who makes a difference in the lives of others, is a solid school citizen and has made a positive contribution to the school environment this year’s award went to Mario Meucci.

The Del Bissonette Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a senior who has displayed outstanding qualities of personality and character. Who has maintained a high scholastic record, been a member of one or more of the school’s athletic teams and has contributed to the well-being of the school and community. This year the award was given to Matt Sekerak.

The Dana L. Childs Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student seeking a degree in education. Dana was a 4th grade teacher for nearly two decades at the Winthrop Grade School encouraging students and instilling in them the confidence needed to succeed. This year the scholarship went to Hayley Choate.

The Diana Sylvester Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a deserving graduate who plans to enter any medical related field. Diana Sylvestor, a 1968 graduate of WHS, went on to become a nurse and was working at a kidney center at the San Francisco University Medical Center at the time of her death. The award this year went to Logan Lattin.

The Nellie M. Tuttle Memorial Valedictorian Scholarship was awarded to Kevin Chamberland.

The Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks Augusta Lodge #964 Scholarship was started 26 years ago. Students from six area schools are eligible for 22 scholarships annually. This year a scholarship was awarded to Hope Dunn.

The Maine Community College system established a scholarship to encourage students to further their education This year two Maine Community College System 2015 Early College for ME Scholarships went awarded to Brooke Dufour and Ian Carr.

The Helena Bissonette Seamans Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a senior who displayed outstanding qualities of personality and character This year’s award went to Lilly Beauregard.

The Martha Williams Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a senior who has demonstrated an interest and talent in any of the art forms, music or poetry. The 2015 award went to Ashleigh Dunham.

The Marshall Hills Memorial Scholarship was started in 2000 by Joan hills in memory of her husband Marshall who was the town manager for Winthrop for many years. This year the award went to Hope Dunn.

The George F. Wilson Athletic Memorial Scholarship was started by Mr. Wilson’s granddaughter in his memory. He attended every Winthrop sporting event and once played baseball for the Detroit Tigers and the Boston Red Sox. This year’s recipient was Ben Allen.

The 15th Alabama Infantry Division Scholarship was awarded to Zack Phinney.

The Philip, David and Stephen Kelley Memorial Scholarships are awarded to a student pursing a vocational or community college degree Abbi Rice.

The Frank Parker Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a senior to commemorate his dedication and devotion to his community and love of skiing Anna Guerette.

The Alice Whiting Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a deserving student to further his or her post-secondary education Ian Carr.

The Walter Taylor Memorial Scholarship is in memory of Mr. Taylor who loved to run many times a week. He also ran a few marathons and this scholarship is specifically for a student who loves to run. This year the award went to Ben Allen.

The Jeanette Cumber Memorial Scholarship is awarded to student pursuing further education and have a love of music. This year two scholarships are awarded to Lilly Beauregard and Teresa Easterbrooks.

AWARDS:

The Stephanie Lunt Memorial Award For Outstanding Sportsmanscholarship is given to a female student who has participated in at least one or more team sports (need not be varsity) and shown outstanding sportsmanship. This year recipient is Lilly Beauregard.

The Ray Convery Award For Outstanding Sportsmanship is awarded to a male student who has participated in at least one or more team sports and shows outstanding sportsmanship on and off the playing field. This year’s recipient is Ben Allen.

Mark L. Johnson Award – given to the student or students not necessarily an athlete, who has given outstanding service to Winthrop High School and athletics. This year’s recipient is Joe Fay.

Winthrop High School awards this trophy to the Outstanding Student Athlete who has participated in three sports during their four years. This year’s recipient is Matt Sekerak.

The Coaches’ Recognition Award is given to the Winthrop High School senior boy or girl for athletic ability, achievement and dedication, but also to an individual who has not been recognized throughout the year. This year’s recipient are Zack Phinney, Ben Caprara.

Winthrop High School also presents trophies to the Outstanding Male and Female Athlete of the year as selected by the student body. This year’s recipients are Ben Allen and Lilly Beauregard.
