My daughter was driving home from work in Oakland at 9:30 p.m. Sunday when her car’s check engine light came on. She didn’t have a cellphone, and debated whether to stop and shut the car off or try to make it to our house in Winslow. She decided to try and make it home.

When she turned onto China Road, she noticed a Winslow police cruiser parked on the side of the road. She stopped and told the officer about her car trouble, and he said he would follow her all the way home to make sure she made it safely.

I just want that officer to know that we are very grateful to him for seeing our daughter arrived home safely. We should all appreciate the good job our police force does dealing with crime and keeping us all safe.

When I watch the news and see what is going on in places like Ferguson, Missouri, and Baltimore, Maryland, it makes me thankful to live in Winslow, and that we have police officers like this one, who not only enforce our laws, but go the extra mile to keep us all safe.
