The Legislature’s Transportation Committee recently rejected an opportunity to support a bill that would outlaw the use of handheld cellphones while driving.

Now some of our legislators want to enact a bill that would allow the use of recreational marijuana.

Driving while talking on a cellphone is dangerous enough. If the proposed recreational marijuana bill passes, a person would be able to drive on the interstate at speeds of up to 75 mph and talk on a cellphone, all while possibly under the influence of marijuana (even though that would be illegal, as it is now to drive under the influence of alcohol).

I always thought our elected officials were responsible for passing legislation that would benefit the people of Maine. I hope most still go by this.
