The Legislature should not be allowed to change the Constitution to bar the public from amending laws that deal with hunting and fishing — “Lawmakers work to block hunting referendums” (April 6).

This bill would create a dangerous precedent to other efforts to the public’s right to use the citizen initiative process. Legislators know if the anti-bear-baiting measure keeps coming back to the ballot it eventually will pass to ban the use of bait, dogs and traps to hunt bear.

If I remember right, some ads before the election said if the ban passed, the public eventually would be over run by bears. The public has a more serious threat running around than bears.

Where’s the concern from the Legislature about drug dealers, child molesters, rapists and murderers that nobody wants around? They have caused more heartache, death and cost to society than all the bears put together.
