WINSLOW — A Fairfield man was arrested Saturday after allegedly striking a woman with her own vehicle Friday night on Clinton Avenue.

Ty Donahue-Beard, 37, of Summer Street, was arrested early Saturday afternoon and faces charges of aggravated domestic assault, theft by unauthorized use of property, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, criminal mischief and operating without a license.

According to an arrest affidavit by Winslow police Officer Harald Christiansen, officers were called to a Clinton Avenue apartment building at about 8:30 p.m. Friday for a report of a woman who had been injured when a vehicle struck the apartment building.

A neighbor saw the scene and called the police after hearing a loud bang from outside the apartment building and saw a silver-colored Monte Carlo speeding out of the driveway and heading east on Clinton Avenue, according to Christiansen’s affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Donahue-Beard was involved in an argument with a woman inside the apartment and when the two went outside, “he drove her car into the stairs, causing them severe damage” and either “striking the woman or knocking her down the stairs” causing injuries to her face and arm.

At the scene, Christiansen and Officer Bradley Hubert encountered a woman who had a deep, inch-long laceration on her cheek and a visible scratch on her right arm, according to the affidavit. Christiansen said that he saw the rear steps to the apartment were damaged, and there was blood on the sidewalk near the stairs.

The woman told officers that she had been drinking and had fallen in her apartment, but was “adamant” that she was fine, Christiansen said in the affidavit. The woman did not allow pictures to be taken, but was treated in the ambulance and taken to Inland Hospital in Waterville. According to Christiansen, she stated that Donahue-Beard had taken her car, but did not elaborate on the statements.

Christiansen saw a “significant amount” of blood on the ground beside the stairs, but none on the stairs coming from the woman’s upstairs apartment despite her claim that she was injured by a fall in the apartment. A family member of the woman said the vehicle was taken without permission.

On Monday, Christiansen said that Donahue-Beard was apprehended by Fairfield Police near his residence at approximately 6 p.m. Saturday on five outstanding warrants from Kennebec and Somerset counties. The woman’s car was recovered at the scene of the arrest, Christiansen said. Donahue-Beard was transferred to Winslow Police Department and then taken to Kennebec County jail, he said.
