The 39th Maine State Math Meet took place April 14 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor with nearly 1,000 of Maine’s best secondary mathematics students from public and private schools. The Maine School of Science and Mathematics was the overall winner with 773 points, followed by Fryeburg Academy with 644 points, Thornton Academy with 642 points, Cheverus with 617 points, Bangor High with 595 points, John Bapst High with 584 points, Marshwood High with 525 points, and Hebron Academy with 469 points. Plaques were awarded to the top seven schools in each of the four divisions.
A perfect score of 72 was earned by senior George Spahn from MSSM, and by juniors Conor Thompson from Bangor High and Elliot Youth from Scarborough High. Scoring 69 points was junior Isaac Robinson of Bangor High, followed by sophomore Peter Nielsen of MSSM and freshman Brett Foster of Lawrence High School in Fairfield, each with 67 points; senior Thatcher Chamberlain of Camden Hills with 63 points; senior Max Holtzman and junior Sean Sullivan, both MSSM mathletes, with 62 points each; and seniors Hannah Stetson of MSSM and Alex Hung of Foxcroft, both with 61 points.
A total of 49 medals were awarded to individual mathletes.
