The Maine Difference Scholarship has been a help to Maine college applicants for the last 20 years. It provides $1,000 a year for four years to a Maine student committed to helping Maine’s economy and/or environment who will attend a Maine College, according to a news release from Lamey-Wellehan.

In 2014, the company’s 100th anniversary, it stopped using plastic or paper bags because of the impact of each on our environment. That resulted in $8,000 of savings, which the company added to the scholarship fund and will now spend $12,000 annually running the four year scholarship program.

Applicants can obtain a scholarship application at any of its six stores at LWShoes.com or the FAME scholarship page.
