WINSLOW — Maine native Jennifer Wixson, a Maine author and farmer, will revisit her old stomping ground Saturday, April 18, as special guest of Benton Grange 458 to celebrate National Grange Month. Wixson will talk about her childhood growing up in Winslow and her Sovereign Series of novels (some of which are set in the local area). Her grandmother, Hope Wixson, wrote a regular column for the Grange Herald, “Diary of a Grange Family,” for more than 25 years. Hope’s diary detailed life on the Wixson’s three-generational family farms, situated on Garland Road in Winslow. In later years, because of her grandmother’s declining health, Jennifer Wixson wrote one of Hope Wixson’s last Grange columns while she was still in her teens.
Autographed copies of Jennifer Wixson’s books will be available for purchase at the event. She lives and farms in Troy, where she and her husband raise Scottish Highland cattle for beef.
Homemade desserts and coffee begin the evening at 6 p.m. Jennifer will talk from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by a short history of the Grange, with dancing to the music of Bee-Bop Bob the disc jockey from 8:30 to 10 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
