WATERVILLE — The Regis College women’s lacrosse team scored eight unanswered goals to close the first half and never looked back in a 14-8 victory over Thomas in non-conference game Thursday at Smith field.

The Terriers got off to a quick start behind goals from Gardiner graduate Jenn Day and Brittany Premo, but the Pride took over from there to take an 8-2 lead at the break. Thomas (4-2, 3-1 North Atlantic Conference) drew as close as 10-6 with 14 minutes, 56 seconds remaining on a goal from Samantha Greenlaw, but could not cut into the deficit any further.

Day paced Thomas with four goals while Premo finished with two scores and a team-high seven ground balls. Allie McCarthy finished with eight saves in goal.

Sam Salamone, Sierra Luce and Katie Haidemenos led Regis (4-4, 2-0 New England Collegiate Conference) with three goals each.

MEN’S LACROSSE

NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 24, UMAINE-FARMINGTON 2: Eight different players scored at least two goals for the Pilgrims in a North Atlantic Conference game at Thomas College.

Matt Richard led UNE (4-4 overall, 4-0 NAC) with seven goals and two assists for nine points. Skyler Saunders added three goals and two assists, and Conor Abbatessa also came up with three goals. UNE out-shot the Beavers, 59-9.

Nathan Chase and David Grainger each scored a goal for UMF (0-8, 0-3).

BASEBALL

HUSSON 4-5, UMF 3-2: The Beavers forced extra innings in Game 2, but Husson ultimately prevailed to complete the doubleheader sweep in Bangor.

Skowhegan grad Trevor Hisler had an RBI single in the opener for the Beavers (8-3, 2-4 North Atlantic Conference). Jimmy Parks also smacked an RBI single for UMF.

Jimmie Neal had an RBI triple for the Beavers in Game 2. Joe Sullivan went the distance on the hill in Game 2 for the Beavers, striking out four batters.

Jordan Carter had three RBI in Game 1 for Husson (12-7, 8-0 NAC) while Zach Sugar had two RBIs for the Eagles in Game 2.

SOFTBALL

UNE 5-6, UMF 4-1: Erskine graduate Meryl Bond, Shelby Bryant, Katie Clark and Natasha DeRoche each had doubles in Game 1 for the Beavers (1-5). Clark had a double in Game 2, with Kennadi Grover delivering the lone RBI for UMF.

Cat Ouellette, a Winthrop native, had a triple for the Nor’easters (9-8) in Game 1 while Katelyn Austin had a double and three RBI in Game 2.
