A 16-year-old boy charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death of a Troy man last month is scheduled to make an initial court appearance in a Belfast court on Friday afternoon.

Maine State Police detectives have been investigating the death of Steven Hodgdon, 49, since March 7, when Waldo County deputies were called to Hodgdon’s Rutland Road home in Troy.

The teenager was taken into custody in Lewiston without incident and brought to the Waldo County Jail, according to a press release from Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

He is scheduled to make his first court appearance Friday at 1 p.m. in Belfast District Court. Because of his age, the boy’s name is not being released and any additional information will be disclosed in court proceedings, McCausland said.

Hodgdon lived in his home with a teenage son, who had been living with relatives following Hodgdon’s death, according to a previous press release about the investigation.

McCausland said he did not have any additional information available on what the teenage boy’s connection to Hodgdon is.

The state medical examiner’s office said Hodgdon died from a stab wound to the chest and ruled the death a homicide.

Investigators have conducted numerous interviews, reviewed evidence from the State Police crime lab, and consulted with the attorney general’s and medical examiner’s offices on the case, said McCausland.
