In the opener, Colby scored twice in the sixth to break a 3-3 tie on a double by Tyler Starks and single by Ryder Arsenault. In the nightcap, the Mules (9-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally from an 8-6 deficit.
HUSSON 3-4, UM-FARMINGTON 2-1: The Eagles halted the Beavers six-game win streak to start the season with two fine pitching performances to sweep a doubleheader in both teams’ North Atlantic Conference opener at the Winkin Complex in Bangor.
Robert Graf scattered five hits over six innings and allowed two earned runs to hold off the Beavers in the opener. He struck out three and walked one. Dennis O’Neil pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up the save. Kyle Peterson went the distance and took the loss for UMF, allowing one earned run on 11 hits and a walk while fanning five. Trailing 3-0 in the sixth, Mt. Blue’s Jimmie Neal and Erskine Academy’s Tom Grady drove in the UMF runs, but that was all the Beavers would get.
In game two, Corey Mangiat allowed seven hits in six innings but only Ethan Gouin’s double to score Neal in the six did any damage. Mongiat struck out three and walked one. O’Neil struck out the side in the seventh to pick up his second save on the day for the Eagles (4-7).
Joe Sullivan took the loss for the Beavers (6-2), allowing four runs on six hits while walking three and fanning four in six innings.
