Winslow student Ross Poulin has accepted an offer to attend the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-1st District, nominated Poulin to the Academy in December.
“Acceptance to a U.S. service academy is extremely competitive and reflects highly on a student’s scholarship, community service and character,” said Pingree in a news release from her office. “Along with all the other Maine students my office nominated, Ross has demonstrated an incredible commitment to serving the country and a maturity well beyond his years. I’m very proud that he was accepted to West Point and wish him the very best in his time there.”
Poulin is a senior at Winslow High School and his parents are Kris and Wendie Poulin.”Attending the Academy and becoming an officer in the United States Army would be one of the greatest honors I could receive,” Poulin wrote in his request for a nomination. “The experience will challenge me physically and mentally in ways that I could not be challenged in any other setting. The hard work I will have to put in will help me advance in life and also help me reach the goals that I have set.”
To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, applicants must be nominated by an authorized nominating source, which includes members of Congress.
