Oak Hill High School senior Kyle Flaherty, of Litchfield, was selected to receive the 2015 Principal’s Award. Flaherty is the son of Moses and Diana Flaherty.
The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship, according to a news release by OHHS Principal Pat Doyle.
Throughout Flaherty’s years at Oak Hill, he has distinguished himself as a student and athlete. He has served as captain of the state championship football teams his junior and senior years. He was also selected to the Campbell Conference All-Star Team two years in a row. He is an active member of the Mountain Valley Conference Student Advisory Team. Flaherty was also captain of the lacrosse team. He was inducted into the National Honor Society as well as the National Technical Honor Society in his junior year. Outside of school he has volunteered for the Oak Hill Recreation Football Camp as well as Habitat for Humanity.
Award winners and their principals are invited to an honors luncheon Saturday, April 11, at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor.
The luncheon recognizes these students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the association. This year an additional five $1,000 scholarships will be presented through the efforts of the MPA Scholarship Golf Tournament.
The award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
