AUGUSTA — Maine’s chief justice is preparing to deliver her annual State of the Judiciary address before the state House and Senate.

Chief Justice Leigh Saufley is scheduled to speak to a joint session of the Legislature on Tuesday at 11 a.m.. Saufley became the first female chief justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court in 2001.

Last year, she urged the Legislature to support a measure to modernize the outdated computer system for the state’s courts. The measure would authorize up to $15 million in bonds to pay for an electronic filing system for the courts. It was approved by lawmakers and signed by Republican Gov. Paul LePage.
