APItechnology of Gardiner acquires Beech Tree Consulting

A Partner in Technology of Gardiner has acquired Beech Tree Consulting of Belgrade, according to Scott Fossett, founder and president of API. Beech Tree was founded by Rob Nevins in October 2013.

“Beech Tree’s knowledge and experience in providing private cloud services to clients, including such services as cloud servers, cloud storage, encrypted email, and hosted phone systems, will enable API to offer a broader range of services to our clients,” said Fossett in a news release. “These services will be a perfect complement to what we already provide. At API, we work hard to stay ahead of the technology curve, and this is one example of the way we are providing secure, cutting-edge services to our clients.”

API was founded in April 2000 and has provided IT solutions for businesses and organizations of all sizes statewide in Maine, fFossett said in the release.

Nevins, of Rome, is originally from Manchester, attended Kents Hill School and the University of Colorado in Boulder. Upon selling his business to API, he joined the staff as a solutions architect.

“API has embraced today’s technology and together, we can focus on solutions for clients, reducing costs and providing a more efficient infrastructure. Designing solutions that increase clients’ productivity while keeping data protected and compliant is my strength,” said Nevins.

Private cloud services play a significant role in cost-saving solutions for Maine businesses. API differentiates itself from other technology companies by keeping its focus on people, and helping people connect with others, Fossett said in the release.

Donahue joins Nancy Marshall Communications

Jessica Donahue has joined Nancy Marshall Communications as an account executive. Donahue will be responsible for implementing marketing strategies and managing media relations for NMC’s clients in the travel/tourism division, according to a news release from Marshall.

“We are pleased to have someone with Jessica’s depth of experience and knowledge in tourism marketing join our staff,” said Charlene Williams, president of NMC, in the release. “Her experience, coupled with her work ethic and can-do attitude will undoubtedly be a tremendous benefit to us and our clients.”

Donahue had been director of marketing and promotions for the Greater Bangor Convention & Visitors Bureau and regional grant manager for The Maine Highlands tourism region

As a former chair of The Maine Highlands tourism organization, Donahue understands the unique challenges and opportunities that face travel/tourism clients, according to the release.

“I am beyond excited to work with Nancy Marshall Communications’ travel and tourism clients,” Donahue said in the news release. “Through my role with the Greater Bangor Convention & Visitors Bureau, as well as The Maine Highlands, I have gained great insight into Maine’s tourism community and what it takes to succeed in the marketplace. Donahue holds a bachelor of dcience in marketing from Bentley University and lives in Augusta. Her husband, Quinton, is principal at Mount View Middle School in Thorndike.

OTIS Federal Credit Union donates $10,000 to five local charities

OTIS Federal Credit Union in Jay donated $10,000 to five area charities, including $2,000 to United Way of the Tri-Valley Area, Maine’s Paper and Heritage Museum, Tri-Town Ministerial Associate Food Cupboard, Care and Share Food Closet and the Wilton Area Food Pantry, according to a news release from the credit union.

The charities were chosen because of the excellent work and respect they have in the communities within the credit union’s membership area, according to the release.

In addition to the $2,000 the food charities received, the credit union will also present each charity with an additional $3148.43, money that was raised by employees of the credit union, with the help of its members, for the Maine Credit Union League’s Ending Hunger Campaign. Credit union employees have also donated to the annual United Way Campaign for more than 20 years, according to the release. With the proven commitment to help those in need, OTIS FCU wanted to reinforce its appreciation to the employees who have contributed to the success of United Way of the Tri-Valley Area.

Poulin, Hasty join Macpage LLC

Macpage LLC announced in a news release that Christian D. Poulin and Tony Hasty have joined certified public accounting the firm.

Poulin, who joins the firm as an associate, lives in central Maine, according to a press release from Macpage.

He earned a bachelor of arts in sociology from Bates College, a master’s in teaching French in 2008 from the University of Maine and a Level II certificate in accounting in 2012 from University of Maine at Augusta. Before joining the firm, Poulin was a tax preparer at an accounting firm. He was also a public school French teacher for 17 years.

Hasty, who lives in southern Maine, is an administrative associated with the firm. He earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University in 2006. Before joining the firm, he worked at a local credit union providing member services.

Macpage has offices in South Portland, Augusta and Portland and Massachusetts.

Physician assistants Barrett, Gagnon earn CAQs

Two Augusta certified physician assistants are among a group of 240 nationally who recently earned a Certificate of Added Qualifications from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, according to a press release from the organization.

Julie Barrett, employed at the Maine Correction Center, and Trish Gagnon, of Kennebec Behvioral Health, both received a CAQ in psychiatry.

They are among 20 certified PAs in Maine and approximately 800 certified PAs nationally to earn a CAQ since the program’s inception in 2011, according tot he release. The CAQ is a distinction earned by meeting licensure, education and experience requirements and then passing a national exam in the specialty.

CAQs are offered to certified PAs in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, emergency medicine, orthopaedic surgery, nephrology and psychiatry, and for the first time in 2014, hospital medicine and pediatrics.
