FARMINGTON — The recent Heat Dance in Farmington raised more than $14,000 to support heat assistance in Franklin County, according to a ECU Heat news release.

“Another major success in our efforts to keep families and individuals warm,” said the Rev. Susan Crane, who runs ECU Heat, in the release. “Heat Dance just gets better and better, thanks to the individuals and local organizations committed to it.”

Approximately 250 people attended the event in the North Dining Hall at the University of Maine in Farmington. Music was provided by Shepherd’s Pie. Students at the Broadway Academy of Dance also performed.

Many of the party-goers arrived in a stretch limousine from the Homestead Restaurant in downtown Farmington, which held a pre-dance supper. The dance venue was transformed into a Hollywood club, with rotating lights and a revolving disco ball, bubbles, balloons and confetti, according to the release.

Tom Saviello hosted the evening and presented Oscars to the event’s major donors. He also read a welcome letter from Gov. Paul LePage praising Susan Crane and the band Shepherd’s Pie, which donated its music to the event.

The event is a major source of funds for ECU Heat, the program run by Crane that administers a once-per-season 50-gallon delivery of fuel (oil, propane, pellets or wood) to deserving families and individuals. Recipients contribute $50 toward the allocation.
