AUGUSTA –– The state Senate unanimously approved Gov. Paul LePage’s nomination for state finance director Tuesday.

Richard Rosen, a former Republican state lawmaker from Bucksport, was confirmed 32-0 after receiving the unanimous support of the Legislature’s budget writing committee last week.

The vote installs Rosen as the commissioner for the Department of Administrative and Financial Services. He has led the department in an acting capacity since the retirement of former finance chief Sawin Millett in May. The department serves as the governor’s budget office while also overseeing Maine Revenue Services.

Rosen had been the governor’s director of the Office of Policy and Management.

The finance department plays a key role in drafting the governor’s budget. Rosen has played an active role in promoting the governor’s $6.3 billion budget, which includes a massive overhaul of the tax code.

Rosen is a graduate of the University of Maine.
