MADISON — The Board of Selectmen has named economic development consultant Tim Curtis as interim town manager for the next two months, as the board continues to interview candidates for the position.

Curtis, who started as interim manager on Monday and will be in the office three days per week through March, is not a candidate for the full-time position because he did not apply for it, said Chairman of the Board of Selectmen Al Veneziano.

The town has been searching for a town manager since December after former manager Dana Berry announced he will retire in October and was then asked to leave office before the end of the year.

Since then, day-to-day town government operations have been managed by selectmen and department heads.

“We thought we had someone in place, but they backed out on us,” Veneziano said. “We’ve had to sort of re-group and make sure that we get the right candidate and not do it in a hurry either. We’re kind of buying some time with Tim in the position he’s in now, and hopefully we can find someone soon.”

Curtis has worked as a consultant for the town on economic development projects for about the last three years. He will be paid $240 per day as interim manager, Veneziano said.
