The AARP Tax-Aide program provides free federal and state income tax preparation and electronic filing to low and moderate-income individuals. Provisions of the Affordable Care Act (health insurance coverage) will be addressed as well as the Maine Property Tax Fairness Credit, according to a news release from AARP. Taxpayers of any age can use this service with special attention given to those 60 and older. Returns are prepared by IRS certified volunteers. The AARP Tax-Aide Program is funded by the IRS and the AARP Foundation, a tax-exempt charitable organization.

Assistance is available by appointment at the following sites from Feb. 1 through April 15.

AUGUSTA: Buker Community Center, 22 Armory St.: Mondays and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. To make appointments, call 582-3053 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. only.

MT VERNON: Dr. Shaw Memorial Library, 344 Pond Road: Saturdays, Feb. 14 and 28, March 14 and 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To make appointments, call 293-2565.

WINSLOW: Winslow Public Library, 136 Halifax St.: Thursdays, Feb. 5 and 19, March 5 and 19 and April 2, from 1 to 6 p.m. To make appointments, call 872-1978.
