There is a clear choice in the race to represent Maine’s 2nd District in Congress: Emily Cain is known for working across the aisle in Augusta to lower taxes and energy costs, balance the budget, and protect Maine seniors and veterans.

She has always been a strong voice for Maine people and businesses, and she’s exactly the kind of leader we need representing us in Congress.

Emily has a positive vision for Maine. She talks about her ideas on a variety of issues, from how to strengthen Social Security to the best ways to address the growing student loan debt crisis. She takes a reasonable approach, she values working with people to find a solution that is best for everyone, and she stands by her record. Those are the facts.

No matter the question or the issue, her opponent, Bruce Poliquin, always has the same answer: nasty, misleading attacks against Emily and her record, as evidenced in his column, “Positive message about record, goals obscured by attacks,” published in the newspaper on Friday.

As for Poliquin’s own record, he ducks and dodges and refuses to explain why he exploited property tax loopholes to pay only $21 on 10 acres of oceanfront property, why he thinks only teenagers earn the minimum wage, or why he thinks we can trust him to help seniors when he says Social Security and Medicare — two programs critical for seniors — are bankrupting our country.

There’s only one thing Poliquin got right: Voters are tired of this kind of political spin. There’s enough of that in D.C. already.

Thank goodness, we have someone like Cain who will run on her record and not distort the truth, and who presents a clear difference. She will work with Democrats, Republicans and independents, and she will represent our district with Maine values — not attacks and childish tactics.

Please join me in casting your vote for Emily Cain for Congress.
