PALMYRA — Sebasticook Valley Health recently celebrated the completion of its two year capital campaign, “It’s the Right Thing to Do,” with a finale celebration at Palmyra Golf Course. More than 75 capital campaign donors attended the event, which recognized those who made possible the hospital expansion and fundraising efforts, according to a SVH press release.
SVH CEO/EMHS Senior Vice President Terri Vieira said in the release, “Two years ago, we broke ground on the new inpatient wing, and today, we’re wrapping up one of the most ambitious capital campaigns in the hospital’s 50-year history.” Vierir described many notable achievements since opening the new wing in 2013, from enabling parents to stay with their children during inpatient stays, to swing bed admissions tripling since the new wing opened last year.
“Our new inpatient rooms provide features that were only found in big hospitals far from here,” Vieira said in the release. “Now, SVH can safely and effectively treat patients with specific needs without traveling long distances and being away from their loved ones.”
Campaign Chair Malcolm “Mac” Cianchette noted in the release that campaign donors “generously gave over 337 separate gifts totaling over $1.1 million. In this day and age, philanthropy is more important than ever in health care. We can afford to provide the highest levels of care with strong support from you and others in our community. Our new facility reflects the will and commitment of many volunteers and donors who realized this fact.”
Board Chairman Michael Gallagher thanked the capital campaign committee and donors whose “phenomenal efforts and outstanding leadership” made the inpatient wing a reality. Lizzy Reinholt, speaking on behalf of Senator Michael Michaud, congratulated the donor and community for supporting SVH’s efforts as a rural hospital that provides “the highest quality healthcare possible that is recognized nationally year after year.”
Michael Peterson, SVH Chief Operating Officer, presented the donor recognition sign, which was donated and designed by CM Almy of Pittsfield. The digital sign is on display outside the inpatient wing.
Mac Cianchette was presented with a ceremonial shovel by Gallagher and Vieira to conclude the finale event.
