Free youth choir concert set for June 24

WATERVILLE — The Youth Choir of Grove United Methodist Church will present a free concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Pleasant Street Methodist Church, 61 Pleasant St. The next day the choir will sing the national anthem at the start of the Portland Sea Dog home game at Hadlock Field, in Portland.

The choir consists of 20 students in grades seven through 12. Membership in the choir is open to anyone interested in singing about God. There are no auditions or musical requirements to join. The choir is responsible for leading one of the church’s worship songs each Sunday. Their repertoire ranges from contemporary numbers to difficult classical pieces, and includes cross-cultural selections in different languages and musical styles.

This summer marks the 15th extended tour for the choir. Previous destination have included Delaware, North Carolina, Ohio, Illinois, New York City, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Georgia and Virginia. This year the choir will spend time in Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maine. During the tour, the choir will stay with numerous host families and be involved in song leading at various nursing homes and churches.
