WINSLOW — A pedestrian who was hit by a car Monday night remained in serious condition in a Bangor hospital today.

Matthew Woodard, 32, was hit about 8 p.m. when he was walking near his home at 482 Cushman Road.

Witnesses driving behind the car that hit Woodward saw him walk across one lane of traffic and in front of a Buick LeSabre, according to Winslow police Lt. Josh Veilleux. Woodard was about 200 feet from his driveway, he said.

The Buick was driven by Catherine Willett, 18, of Vassalboro, and the preliminary report showed that neither speed nor distraction were factors in the accident, Veilleux said.

Woodard was taken first to Inland Hospital in Waterville before being transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he remained today, according to a hospital spokesman.

Woodard was unconscious and bleeding when police arrived at the accident scene, Veilleux said.

The accident occurred on a winding section of the road near Bassett Road that has no street lights and a narrow shoulder.

Veilleux said the results of a blood-alcohol test on Willett is pending and the accident remains under investigation.
