Hospice volunteer training planned
SKOWHEGAN -- Hospice Volunteers training is set for 5:30-8:30 p.m. starting Monday, Sept. 16. During the eight-week training, participants can obtain skills necessary to offer peace, comfort and dignity to families facing end of life issues.

Skowhegan Savings Charitable Foundation pledges $20,000 to Lake George Regional ParkDonation to be used for capital improvements
SKOWHEGAN -- Skowhegan Savings recently announced that the Skowhegan Savings Charitable Foundation has made a $20,000 pledge to the Lake George Regional Park. The pledge will be used to finance capital improvements to the park, according to a press release from the foundation.

Blood drive planned for Aug. 15 in Winslow
WINSLOW -- Winslow VFW, 175 Veterans Drive, will host a blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15. An urgent need for platelets as well as O and B negative blood types are in need, all types will be accepted. To donate blood, or for more information, call 800-RED-CROSS or 426-8423.

Literacy volunteers tutor training offered
WATERVILLE -- Literacy Volunteers in the Waterville Area will conduct a three-day tutor workshop at Waterville Public Library. The workshops are set for 5:30-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26; Tuesday, Sept. 3; and Thursday, Sept. 5. Completing the three-day tutor training will certify participants as a Literacy Volunteer.
