Event director Tim Kelly says timed runs were being held Saturday and Sunday at the “Harvest Event.” It’s the first racing since motorcyclist Bill Warner died in July at the Maine Event.

The Loring Timing Association opens the runway at the former Loring Air Force Base to motorcycles and cars seeking to set land speed records, or just to see how fast they can go.

Warner, from Florida, holds the record for fastest speed on a conventional motorcycle, hitting nearly 312 mph in 2011 at Loring.

He was trying to top 300 mph in a mile when he crashed on July 14. He died an hour and 15 minutes later at a local hospital.
