SKOWHEGAN — Skowhegan Savings recently announced that the Skowhegan Savings Charitable Foundation has made a $20,000 pledge to the Lake George Regional Park. The pledge will be used to finance capital improvements to the park, according to a press release from the foundation.

Lake George is a day-use lakeside park located between Skowhegan and Canaan. Established in 1992, it attracts more than 20,000 visitors year round to enjoy the lake, trails and picnic areas in the 320-acre park. The park is also a destination for school groups, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and other service organizations. During the summer the park hosts Camp Podooc for more than 200 Skowhegan and Canaan children in grades one through six who participate in swimming lessons, theater, and arts and crafts during the week-long camp.

“We are so excited to be able to make this important pledge,” said John Witherspoon, Skowhegan Savings President and CEO, in the release. “Lake George is a truly wonderful park that members of our community enjoy all year round. We’re happy to be a part of maintaining the integrity and infrastructure of the area.”

“This pledge from Skowhegan Savings will enable Lake George Regional Park to continue to offer and grow our programs, improve our facilities and maintain the waterfront,” said Jeff McCabe, park director, said in the release. “Skowhegan Savings has been a huge supporter of the park for many years and we are very grateful for this contribution.”

The pledge, made possible by the Skowhegan Savings Charitable Foundation, is a matching commitment that will span a three-year period. All outside donations made during the three-year period will be matched up to a maximum of $20,000.
