AUGUSTA — An Albion man was sentenced to 30 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to several charges in Kennebec County Superior Court including terrorizing with a knife.
Joseph Forest Tilly, 31, also pleaded guilty to tampering with a witness/informant/juror or victim and attempted violation of conditions of release as well as two counts of violating conditions of release.
The prosecutor, Assistant District Attorney David Spencer, told the judge that Tilly was riding in a car in Winslow on May 1 with a mother and daughter when he threatened the woman and stabbed the dashboard repeatedly with a knife.
“The defendant was ranting and raving and making threats if she doesn’t shut up he’s going to slit her kid’s throat,” Spencer told Justice Michaela Murphy.
Spencer said the girl, a teenager, made an audio recording of the incident on her phone and emailed it to a friend whose mother called police.
Spencer said the vehicle’s dashboard showed multiple cuts with a sharp item.
After Tilly was arrested, he tried to contact the woman several times from Kennebec County jail to get her to persuade her daughter to write a statement saying the incident didn’t happen, Spencer said.
Those instances occurred between May 4 and June 7, all in Augusta.
The woman did not want Tilly charged, Spencer said.
He also told Murphy that the Department of Health and Human Services has become involved with the family.
