VASSALBORO — Selectmen will vote Thursday on whether to spend $9,000 to get new aerial images of the town.
Town Manager Mary Sabins said she will propose pulling the funds from various places in the town budget, including the administration budget that funds Town Office expenses, the public works account and the assessor’s budget.
Sabins said it’s time to update town maps that are used by the code enforcement officer, the tax assessor, the Planning Board, the conservation commission and the public.
“It’s going to replace 20-year-old outdated material we’re using now,” she said.
After working last year in Cumberland and York counties, the Maine Geolibrary Orthoimagery Program is focusing on Androscoggin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties. Kennebec County has agreed to participate, spending $21,167 in capital improvement money, which means all towns will get a basic view, with the option to pay more for an upgrade.
Sabins is proposing that Vassalboro go with the middle-grade option, so more details will be easier to see on the new maps.
Selectmen are scheduled to vote on the proposal at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Town Office, at 682 Main St.
