BIDDEFORD — Two people were killed inside a home in a suburban neighborhood near Biddeford Pool on Saturday night, and a man was taken into custody from the home after a standoff with police, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The dead are a man and woman, McCausland said in a statement issued about an hour after the man was taken into custody at 10 p.m. He said a second woman was taken to the hospital earlier with a gunshot wound, and a young child who was not injured was also removed from the house earlier.

McCausland said in an interview that police would not release any additional information, including the identities of the victims or the man in custody, until Sunday.

The state police tactical team was summoned to the shooting scene at 17 Sokokis Road by Biddeford Police shortly after 7 p.m. The address, listed as the home of a business called Korean Yankee Landscaping, is located in a semi-rural residential area off Pool Road, between Biddeford Pool and downtown.

Police cruisers blocked access to the street at its intersections with Pool Road for much of Saturday evening. The roadblocks were lifted shortly after 11 p.m., but the house was roped off with yellow crime-scene tape visible in the glow of neighborhood Christmas lights. State Police detectives were at the home to begin their investigation, McCausland said.
