SKOWHEGAN — Ten members of Maine Women’s Clubs recently attended the General Federation of Women’s Clubs International Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

GFWC/Maine President Anne Cress and Past President Suzanne Raymond presented the Maine Federation Flag in the Parade of Flags, which opens the business session of the convention, according to a news release.

Carol Jarvais, GFWC/The Dove Society, of Skowhegan, was the Maine LEADS candidate. She attended a daylong training session as part of the Leadership Education and Development Seminar.

Nancy Ames, GFWC/Semper Fidelis Club, of Skowhegan, won third prize for her photo “Japanese Tea Garden.” Patten Woman’s Club won first prize for their Unicef Collection and report in the Community Service Program. GFWC/Miosac Club, of Dover-Foxcroft, won first prize in District V for Operation Smile, the past president’s program, according to the release.

GFWC/Livermore Falls Women’s Club sponsored a woman from their area for a Success for Survivors Scholarship and she was selected as one of six recipients nationally. She was presented a $1,000 scholarship to help continue her education, according to the release. This is the first year the club has awarded these scholarships to aid survivors of domestic violence with furthering their education.

Other members attending were Libby Wiers, GFWC/ Outlook Club, of Hartland, a member of the Credentials Committee; Katherine White, GFWC/Winterport Woman’s Club, past New England Region president; Joyce Noonan, GFWC/Skowhegan Women’s Club; Gloria Leveille, GFWC/ Research Club, of Limerick, serving as GFWC/ME state treasurer; Jane Shaw, Castine Woman’s Club, serving as international liaison; and Minnie McCormick, GFWC/Miosac Club, of Dover-Foxcroft, serving as domestic violence awareness chairwoman.
