OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Drew Ferrick lofted a fly ball to right field with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th to score Harry Ridge from third and give First Title a 5-4 win over Lewiston for the American Legion state championship title this afternoon at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach.
It is First Title’s first Legion state title and it will play Thursday in the Northeast Regional Tournament against Woonsocket, R.I., at 4:30 p.m. at The Ballpark.
The game was a completion of Monday’s game that was stopped in the 6th inning because of a thunderstorm with First Title, made up of players from Cheverus High, leading 4-2.
Lewiston tied the game in top of the 9th with a dramatic two-run rally with two outs. Lewiston had back-to-back doubles to tie the game at 4. Cheverus counter-rallied in the bottom of the 9th, loading the bases on a single, a fielder’s choice and two walks, bringing up Ferrick who hit game-winning sacrifice fly.
First Title pitcher/short stop Louie DiStasio was named the tournament’s MVP. Named to the All-Tournament Team from First Title were DiStasio, Ferrick, Ridge, Nic Lops and Tyler Flaherty.
