BATH — Bath Iron Works was awarded three contract modifications totaling $36.4 million for the shipyard to continue work on existing projects.
The unit of General Dynamics will receive about $17 million to continue technical and industrial engineering work to support construction of the DDG-1000 class of ships.
Bath Iron Works, one of Maine’s largest employers, also will receive a $12.5 million modification to a previously awarded contract for Littoral Combat Ship class design services. The shipyard will provide design services, engineering studies, cost estimating support, among other services.
It also will receive $7 million to provide design, planning, and material support services for the USS Independence. The work will include program management, planning, engineering, design, material kitting, liaison and scheduling.
“It’s work that we’ve been anticipating. It will keep us doing what we’re doing. It’s incremental funding,” said Bath Iron Works spokesman Jim DeMartini.
Bath Iron Works employs 5,400 workers. The company recently finalized a four-year contract with its largest union.
