HALLOWELL — Two women were hurt during a crash Tuesday on Water Street that allegedly occurred when the driver became distracted by a dog.

Hallowell Police Chief Eric Nason said the driver, Somer Mongeon, 33, of Farmingdale and her passenger, Amy Breton, 33, suffered injuries that were not believed to life-threatening. A police report of the accident did not indicate whether the women were taken to the hospital.

Mongeon was issued a summons charging her with operating an unregistered motor vehicle beyond 150 days.

The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m., as Mongeon’s 2006 Toyota car went off the right side of the road as she drove north on Water Street.

“There was a dog that apparently she became distracted by enough to drift off the road and strike a utility pole,” Nason said.

“I think there was minimal damage to the utility pole,” Nason said.
