RICHMOND — Selectmen plan to meet tonight to discuss bids submitted to design and build a replacement for Umberhine Public Library.
Proposals to design and build a library for the town were due last week.
The library now operates in leased space at 164 Main St. The previous library building was torn down last March. It had become unusable because of mold and water damage, and it had no functioning furnace.
Residents who responded to a recent town survey overwhelmingly supported building a library on the same spot where the previous one once stood, at 86 Main St., and indicated they would allow the town to borrow money to do so.
The request for proposals from the town asks for bids to construct a 3,000-square-foot library on the site of the former structure. It says the construction budget for the project will be about $500,000, but warned bidders that figure could change.
Selectmen meet tonight at 6 in the conference room at the Town Office.
They also are scheduled to:
* Hear an update on the Hathorn Block building at 330 Front St., a prominent but neglected downtown building;
* discuss a proposed warrant article for the annual Town Meeting adopting new building codes;
* discuss the budget for Richmond Days, an annual July event;
* discuss a military excise tax exemption;
* develop an action plan, between the Police and Fire departments, for responses to small, non-emergency calls;
* discuss supporting the implementation by Sagadahoc County Emergency Management of a reverse-911 emergency notification system and;
* discuss a Public Works Department request to acquire a 1988 Ford F-350 truck “retired” by the Fire Department.
