The incident took place at 11:04 a.m., according to a Farmington police dispatcher who declined to release further details.

According to the Sun Journal in Lewiston, Farmington Police Chief Jack Peck said Justin Crowley-Smilek, 28, of Farmington, came to the police department and used a phone outside of the building to call for help.

When an officer came out to see him, Crowley-Smilek “went after the officer in a threatening manner” and the officer shot him, Peck said.

The Farmington dispatcher said the Attorney General’s Office will investigate the case, and referred all questions to that office.

A spokeswoman for the Attorney General’s Office, however, didn’t immediately return a message.
