AUGUSTA — A Waterville man has been indicted on charges of unlawful sexual contact and unlawful sexual touching involving four children over a one-year period.

Daniel B. Doucette, 44, was arrested Friday on a warrant from an indictment handed up Oct. 6 by a grand jury in Kennebec County.

The indictment was sealed until his arrest.

He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday in Kennebec County Superior Court and is being held in jail in Augusta in lieu of $5,000 bail.

Doucette is accused of three counts of unlawful sexual contact, four counts of unlawful sexual touching and two counts of assault.

The indictment says the offenses occurred between March 15, 2010, and March 15, 2011, in Waterville.
An indictment is not a determination of guilt, but it is an indication that sufficient evidence is present to proceed with formal charges and a trial in superior court.

The unlawful sexual contact charges list three victims who were less than 12 years old at the time.
The unlawful sexual touching charges list the same three victims plus a fourth, and they indicate the children were less than 14 years old at the time.

Two of the same victims are listed as victims of the assault charges.

District Attorney Evert Fowle said Monday that the incidents were not random sexual assaults.

Conditions of bail ban Doucette from contact with the victims and with children under age 16.

Doucette has three previous convictions on misdemeanor charges — theft and operating after suspension in 2009 and another operating-after-suspension charge in 2004, according to records at the district attorney’s office.
