Arthur Moore, left, hands Ernie McPherson a crest from Hallowell’s World War II memorial Thursday as Bert Truman, second from right, and Mike Madden remove the 394 names displayed in the case listing Hallowell residents who served in World War II.  The Hallowell American Legion post members were breaking down the memorial, erected 20 years ago on the lawn of the post office, to collect the names for the new memorial scheduled to be unveiled in May at the Hallowell Cemetery.  The veterans said they hope to raise about $30,000 to defray costs for the granite marker. Moore served in the merchant marine and McPherson served with the Marines in World War II.
