NORWALK, Conn. — Jacob Trask hit a two-run single in the top of the sixth and J.T. Nutting worked out of a jam in the seventh to lift Central Maine past host Norwalk 3-2 in a 13-year-old Babe Ruth New England Regional tournament game Saturday night.
“It was a terrific game,” Central Maine coach Butch Cunningham said.
With the teams tied 1-1 in the sixth, Track hit a two-run single to give Central Maine the lead for good.
However, victory didn’t come easy.
Ben Frazee, who struck out five and earned the victory, put runners on second and third with no outs to open the bottom of the seventh.
Cunningham then turned to Nutting, who preserved the victory with a strikeout and a pair of groundouts.
Jared Cunningham, Frazee and Nutting also had hits for Central Maine, which plays Manchester, N.H., tonight at 7.
