FAIRFIELD — Portland staged a pair of late rallies to knock off Central Maine twice on Saturday and win the State Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament for 14-year-olds. In the first game, Portland scored six runs in the seventh inning to post an 11-6 win. In the second game, Portland scored five times in the sixth to win 9-4.
Joe Apon went 6-for-8 in the two games for the winners while Zach Guptil went 4 for 6 for Central Maine. Portland advances to the New England Regional tournament in Westfield, Mass. July 20-Aug. 3.
