AUGUSTA – A former city fire captain was convicted by a jury Friday of sexual abuse of a minor, stemming from an illicit relationship he had with a teenage girl.

The jury, however, also cleared Robert G. MacMaster, 40, formerly of Manchester, of three related charges of sexual abuse of a minor and gross sexual assualt.

Testimony concluded and the case went to the jury in Kennebec County Superior Court early Friday afternoon.

MacMaster had pleaded not guilty to the charges, all of which had allegedly occurred between April 7, 2006, and April 6, 2010, when the girl was between 14 and 18 years old.

The alleged victim, now 19, testified earlier this week she and MacMaster had sex in his Manchester home and at Augusta’s Western Avenue fire station.
