PORTLAND — A former Cape Elizabeth man who threatened to rape, torture and kill the hosts of a National Public Radio program pleaded guilty this morning in U.S. District Court to federal charges.
John Crosby, 38, faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for sending threatening communications in interstate commerce and possession of a firearm by a felon. When Crosby was arrested in Portland on Jan. 26, agents found a shotgun in his car.

Crosby had been scheduled to go on trial in U.S. District Court in May on charges that he emailed dozens of death threats and bizarre accusations directed at Melissa Block and Guy Raz, hosts of NPR’s ”All Things Considered.”
Crosby is being held without bail pending his sentencing, which has not been scheduled.
