WASHINGTON — Sen. Olympia Snowe had more than $2 million in her campaign coffers at the end of the first quarter, her campaign said this afternoon.
The Maine Republican doesn’t yet have an announced Democratic challenger for her 2012 reelection bid, but two Tea Party movement affiliated candidates say they will take on Snowe in a GOP primary.
The deadline for filing federal campaign finance reports for the quarter ending March 31 isn’t until Friday. But Snowe intends to turn her report in on Wednesday and released bottom line numbers this afternoon.
Snowe, who will be running for a fourth term in the Senate next year, raised $877,019 during the first three months of the year, but spent just $62,433.
That left Snowe with $2.05 million on hand at the end of the quarter.
One of her declared primary challengers this year is Scott D’Amboise, 47, of Lisbon Falls. D’Amboise, who ran against Democratic Rep. Mike Michaud in 2006 and is a health care technician and owner of a commercial cleaning business, said he will campaign on a platform of values, morals and fiscal conservatism.
Snowe’s other announced tea party-aligned challenger is Andrew Ian Dodge of Harpswell, 43, a freelance writer and a former coordinator of the Tea Party Patriots in Maine. Dodge announced his candidacy in Washington at February’s Conservative Political Action Conference.
Messages were left for D’Amboise and Dodge, seeking comment on how much each has raised for a challenge against Snowe.
