PORTLAND — Hundreds of schools and businesses across Maine, New Hampshire and parts of Vermont are taking a late season snow day as yet yet another snow storm moves across the region.

The National Weather Service says the heaviest snow is falling across parts of coastal Maine and New Hampshire.

Meteorologist Mike Kistner at the National Weather Service’s Gray office says it started snowing late Thursday and picked up early Friday.

He says coastal Maine could end up with between 8 and 14 inches and the heaviest bands could be in the Augusta area.

Kistner says power outages are possible because the heavy, wet snow could bring tree limbs down on power lines.
